Your protection, explained clearly.
Every heat pump we recommend comes with manufacturer warranties of 5–10 years, workmanship guarantees from the installer, and an insurance-backed guarantee through the Independent Warranty Association. We install through MCS-certified partners.
Three layers of protection
Your heat pump installation is covered by manufacturer warranty, installer workmanship guarantee, and independent insurance — each from a different entity.
Manufacturer warranty
Covers the heat pump unit itself — compressor, refrigerant circuit, and major components. Typically 5–7 years as standard; some brands offer up to 10 years with registration.
Workmanship guarantee
Covers the quality of the installation — pipework, wiring, controls, and system commissioning. Provided by our installation partner, Home Heating Services (Scotland) Ltd.
Insurance-backed guarantee
If the installer were to cease trading, your workmanship guarantee continues. Underwritten by the Independent Warranty Association (IWA).
Manufacturer warranties by brand
Warranty terms vary by brand. These are standard manufacturer warranties — some brands offer extensions with product registration or annual servicing.
| Brand | Standard Warranty | Refrigerant | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Daikin | 5 years | R32 | Up to 7 years with extended warranty registration |
| Mitsubishi | 5 years | R32 | Up to 7 years with extended warranty registration |
| Vaillant | 7 years | R290 | Up to 10 years with extended warranty registration |
| Octopus Cosy | 5 years | R32 | Daikin-based unit; Octopus manage warranty claims |
| NIBE | 7 years | R410A | Up to 10 years with extended warranty registration |
| Samsung | 5 years | R32 | Up to 7 years with extended warranty registration |
Warranty terms shown are indicative ranges based on manufacturer literature at time of writing. Exact terms depend on the specific model installed and whether extended warranty registration is completed. Your installer will confirm the precise warranty applicable to your installation.
Workmanship guarantee from the installer
Separate from the manufacturer warranty, this covers the quality of the installation itself.
Home Heating Services (Scotland) Ltd
We install through MCS-certified partners.
The workmanship guarantee covers everything the installer is responsible for: pipework and connections, electrical wiring, control setup, system commissioning, and integration with your existing heating system. If any aspect of the installation workmanship is found to be defective within the guarantee period, the installer will rectify it at no additional cost.
- Pipework, fittings, and refrigerant connections
- Electrical wiring and controls integration
- System design accuracy (heat-loss calculations)
- Commissioning and performance verification
- Hot water cylinder and buffer tank connections (where applicable)
Insurance-backed guarantee (IBG)
Your safety net — even if the installer ceases trading.
How the insurance-backed guarantee works
An insurance-backed guarantee (IBG) is an insurance policy that sits behind the installer's workmanship guarantee. It is provided through the Independent Warranty Association (IWA).
What it means in practice: if your installer were to cease trading during the guarantee period, the IBG ensures that another approved contractor will complete or rectify the work — at no cost to you. This is funded by the insurance underwriter, not by you or any government scheme.
What it covers: defects in workmanship, incomplete installations, and deposit protection (money paid to the installer for work not yet completed).
What aftercare includes
A heat pump needs far less maintenance than a boiler — but regular servicing keeps it running at peak efficiency and protects your warranty.
Annual service
A qualified engineer checks refrigerant pressures, electrical connections, flow rates, and overall system performance. Typically takes 1–2 hours. Recommended annually to maintain manufacturer warranty validity.
Filter and strainer checks
Heating system filters (e.g., magnetic filters) and inlet strainers are cleaned or replaced to prevent debris from reducing efficiency or damaging components.
Controls and performance review
Weather compensation curves, flow temperatures, and heating schedules are reviewed and adjusted to ensure you're getting the best efficiency for the current season.
Outdoor unit inspection
The outdoor unit is checked for airflow obstructions, coil condition, fan operation, and drainage. Leaves, debris, and frost damage are addressed.
Aftercare and servicing are provided by the installation partner, Home Heating Services (Scotland) Ltd. Service plans and costs are agreed directly with the installer at the time of installation.
