Editorial Policy
Every figure, comparison, and recommendation on this site is independently researched and fact-checked. This page explains how we verify what we publish and what to do if you spot an error.
How we check facts
We apply four rules to every claim we publish on this site.
Grant figures verified against source data
All grant amounts, eligibility rules, and funding caps are checked directly against Scottish Government grant publications and Ofgem data. We never rely on secondary reporting.
SCOP ratings taken from manufacturer datasheets
Seasonal Coefficient of Performance ratings are sourced from the manufacturer’s own published datasheets. Where ratings vary by model or operating temperature, we state the specific conditions.
Costs derived from installer partner quotes
Installation cost ranges are based on real, anonymised quotes from our installation partners across Scotland. We never fabricate or estimate cost figures.
All figures are dated
Every data point carries a "last verified" date so readers can judge its currency. If a figure is more than one review cycle old, we flag it for update before re-publishing.
Our sources
We draw on a small number of authoritative, publicly available sources. Each is listed below with the type of data we take from it.

What we are not
Transparency requires us to be clear about the limits of our service as well as its strengths.
We are not an installer
Scottish Energy Efficiency is an independent advisory and comparison service. We do not manufacture or supply heat pumps. We install through MCS-certified partners.
We are not financially regulated for advice
We are not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Nothing on this site constitutes financial advice. If you need guidance on financing a heat pump installation, please consult an independent financial adviser.
We are an advisory and comparison service
Our role is to research, compare, and present heat pump options impartially so that Scottish homeowners can make informed decisions. We earn a referral fee when a homeowner proceeds with one of our installation partners, but this does not influence our editorial recommendations.
